When will my order ship?
Here at Shady Oak Butterfly Farm, our goal is to provide customers with healthy butterflies and plants. To keep our butterflies and plants in good health, we have set shipping dates and times each week. To avoid longer transit times that could harm them, we do not ship live butterflies and plants over the weekend.
Please be aware that shipping methods are chosen for the health of the live items, and dictate the amount of time in transit, not the amount of time before the order is received.
All order requests are printed out and processed in our office within 5 business days. Orders are shipped within 2 weeks unless there is an issue regarding availability, USDA restrictions, or shipping methods. If there are any issues with your order, you will be contacted within 5 business days. After placing an order, you will receive an additional email with your expected ship date, product information/instructions, and finalized invoice within 5 business days.
Release Butterflies: All orders for release butterflies must be placed at least three days prior to the shipping date (shipping date is 2-3 days before the event). You will be asked for the release date when ordering. We ship adult butterflies to arrive the day before your event. It is advisable to place the order as early as possible to avoid any issues with availability, as we often times sell out in advance.
What shipping method should I choose at checkout?
When ordering live caterpillars, chrysalises, and plants:
Live butterflies and plants should not be in transit for longer than 2 days. The following states may choose UPS Ground Shipping and still qualify for the ‘Arrive Alive’ guarantee: FL, GA, AL, MS, LA, TN, KY, SC, NC, VA. All other states need to choose UPS Next Day Air or UPS 2nd Day Shipping for larvae, chrysalises and plants.
All adult release butterflies must be shipped UPS Next Day Air regardless of state. If your release date is on a Sunday, we recommend UPS Saturday Delivery.
If there are any problems or questions about your order, it will not be processed until you are contacted. If you choose a shipping method that is not recommended, it will delay your order while we contact you for confirmation.
